I began my journey understanding the impact of adverse childhood experiences, (also known as ACEs) after the placement of our first foster child in 2016. Having parented our own, now grown, biological children I flung myself headfirst into the world of IEP’s and behavior challenges. I learned right away that my parenting approach was not going to work for the kiddo in my care.

We adapted our parenting style and it was still an untenable situation. Chaos permeated our once peaceful home. We ran into obstacles within the school system and we felt isolated and unsure of how or where to find support. We were in crisis and struggling to meet the demands of parenting a child with high trauma needs.

With karma and hope on our side we were introduced to Tiffany Sudela-Junker (truly our angel in disguise) through Kitsap Strong. Since that fateful introduction Tif has been a mentor, coach, advocate and friend. Armed with experience and on the job training my mission is to partner with Tif to support families in the way that we ourselves were supported.
